"My Questions" Feature

CanadaQBank has created a feature within each MCQ that allows you to place the selected question in a separate section for future reference and revision. This feature is called "My Questions" and with it you can add a particular MCQ to your selected list of questions that can be reviewed at a later stage.

Notes Section

You can add your own notes inside each MCQ and review them at a later stage. This makes the learning process more interesting and allows you to review your own notes during revisions.

"Questions with Note" Feature

In fact you can take the "notes" feature one step further. Create your notes within the MCQ and then add the MCQ to the "My Questions" section. These questions with notes can be reviewed on a separate section of the user interface. This creates a highly impressive overall customization and greatly enhances your quality of learning.

Difficulty levels

Everybody has to start somewhere. Perhaps you are a medical student starting your preparation early or a well experienced physician who has lost touch with academics. You can now start with the "Easy" level of questions and then gradually work your way up to the "Medium" and "Hard" difficulty levels.

Topics Mode

Learning moods will vary from time to time. Which means that you may need to introduce variety into your learning regimen. So rather than using the typical test mode, you can use the "topics mode" and master one topic at a time. The ultimate goal is to keeping moving forward regardless of your learning style. The topics mode helps you move ahead one small step at a time.

RCSFE

RCSFE stands for the Royal College Surgical Foundations Exam. The exam was created to evaluate a candidate's level of readiness and competence to enter into practice as a clinician. Essentially, this exam tests your fundamental surgery skills with the majority of surgical specialties.

The exam is controlled by the Surgical Foundations Examination Board. This board consists of several Canadian physicians that are experts in their field. The RCSFE is based on the Surgical Foundation's blueprint. This blueprint contains the knowledge required to pass the exam.

The exam is typically taken by second-year residents of different specialties such as Cardiac Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Neurosurgery, and Obstetrics & Gynecology.

Writing the RCSFE

The exam is a written examination. The exam is divided into two papers, and each of them have between 125-150 questions and lasts for about 3 hours each.

The exam covers essential areas that surgeons will have to face in real-life practice, such as medical problems in the surgical patient, prep for surgery, the conduct of a surgical procedure, biostatistics, epidemiology, critical appraisal, trauma including burn, sepsis and surgical infections, transplantation and implantation. Other areas include fluid management, acid-base problems, hemodynamics, oxygen transport, shock, metabolic and nutritional care, legal and ethical responsibilities, cancer, safety principles, patient evaluations, imaging, and lab tests.

The exam will be scored based on the best answer, and you will need at least a 70% score to pass.

Requirements for writing the RCSFE

First of all, you have to be a resident to take the examination. But to write the exam, you must have fulfilled some requirements. They are-

● If you are a resident trained in Canada, you must have a postgraduate residency training accredited by the Royal College
● If you are resident trained in the US, your program must be accredited by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education
● If you're an international medical graduate, your training will have to be assessed by the Royal College

Scheduling, registering and applying for the RCSFE

You will have to complete a registration form on the Royal College portal. After you are done, an email containing your Royal College ID number will be sent to you.

Then go to the Royal College website and check what certification route applies to you; when you find out which one does, you apply there and submit your credentials for certification.

After your credentials and training must have been accessed, an official ruling letter will be sent from the Royal College confirming your eligibility for the examination. Note that it may take up to six to eight months for this letter to be sent.

When you get this ruling letter, register and pay for the exams. It costs about $2200

The exam takes place either in the spring or fall. The deadline for the fall exam is on August 31, and the Spring exam is on April 30
